This class is an exploration of the transition from childhood to adulthood. What are your individual strengths and challenges? How are you influenced by your family, friends, and various environments? How much do you know about your history and heritage? What are your core beliefs and values, and how do those shape how you deal with challenges? What are your goals for completing high school and the immediate years after high school? To help us on this journey, we’ll read four novels focused on different aspects of "coming of age" and Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers" about success. Students will be assigned a variety of papers and essays throughout the year to relate course topics and readings to their own experiences. (1 English credit)

HW 6 One-and-a-half page reflection on your True Colors (primary and secondary)

Use the class discussions and handouts to help you consider your primary (strongest) and secondary colors from the True Colors activity.

Here are some ideas of what to include:
* State your primary and secondary colors and write a general summary of the characteristics of each color.
* Discuss what made you select these colors for yourself. What do you relate to most in each of those colors?
* Discuss the "Attributes" page for your colors.

  • Discuss how you see yourself and how others might see you.  What rings the most true? What does not seem true for you? (Focus on what you agree with, however)
  • Discuss your strengths
  • Discuss your opinion of table at the bottom of that page (dreams, values, regards, etc)
  • Discuss the "at work, in love, in childhood" page
* Discuss the packet that describes how people should best interact with you, conversational style, capturing your interest, signs you are worn out, and improving performance.

* Discuss which color you might have the most difficulty relating to or getting along with and explain why.

* Discuss any reflections from your group or individual class work.
